Mija is an original bilingual musical in development, inspired by the true story of a Latin American woman reconnecting with her roots. Featuring music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winning Gaby Moreno and Portland singer-songwriter Anna Gilbert, with a book by Broadway & Youtube artist Evynne Hollens and Seattle playwright Rebecca Touriño Collinsworth.
When Luisa leaves her sheltered life in the U.S. for Antigua, Guatemala, she seeks a new beginning and connection to her heritage. However, a life-threatening pregnancy triggers a series of events that shape her destiny. Twenty years later in Oregon, Gabriela, a high school senior, is eager to graduate and be seen for who she is, while grappling with her own sense of belonging.
Set across two decades and intertwined narratives, Mija delves into the complexities of identity and choice through a bilingual lens.
